Ensuite/Bathroom Design

We all look forward to coming home and relaxing in our own private oasis. Over the last few years we have seen the popular inclusion of the free standing bath and the overhead rain shower as part of bathroom design. This provides us with a calming and soothing end to our busy days.

What Colour Scheme?

The most popular colour scheme has been the soft grey toning’s and white.
Calcutta tiles and porcelain slabs are widely used by interior designers. Furthermore, they provide a very luxurious look to a ensuite/bathroom. To complete the look the tiles are often accompanied by a white bath, basin and toilet.

Another popular accent colour has been black. We have seen this in tap ware, shower screens and framed mirrors. They provide a very stylish and dramatic look to bathrooms.

Clients are constantly asking me what is on trend and what should they select. I always remind them that given chrome has always been around and always will be, selecting the chrome option is certainly a safe option. Then it is up to the client as to whether they want to play it safe or not.

The most popular shower screen option is definitely the frameless shower screen as we all dislike cleaning the metal frames. If space permits, I recommend having a single glass shower screen panel or a tiled wall. This allows you to seamlessly walk in and out of the space making for an effective bathroom design. This will give a sense of spaciousness and luxury to the ensuite/bathroom. It also means minimum cleaning and maintenance and we all love that option!

What Lighting Options?

Lighting is another key factor when designing the perfect bathroom. I have been using LED lighting on kickers to highlight vanity joinery. Adding pendant lighting such as chandelier’s over a free standing bath is an effective design element. I always encourage my clients to incorporate wall lights and directional lighting in their ensuite/bathroom design. The reason is to provide a practical source of lighting.
As you can see there is a variety of lighting that is required. This is especially so when designing both a practical and luxurious bathroom.

Styling the bathroom when it is complete requires the selection of beautiful towels, candles and silk plants. Gorgeous perfume bottles, creams and lotions placed on glass shelves or bathroom niches provide us with the ultimate pampering accessories to make us all feel special.

When selecting towels for my clients I only ever select Karsten towels. They are unique in their design and made of 100% Brazilian cotton. Therefore, it gives you the ultimate luxury experience in towels. These are exclusive to Jane Gorman Decorators & Developers Pty Ltd in Australia and can be purchased on my web site from the shop and make for a wonderful Christmas gift.

Remote controlled candles are always a safe option in the bathroom and I specify these when decorating bathrooms.

Hoping everyone is enjoying the festive season!
